From Gels to Accessories - 10 Must-Have Essentials for Traveling According to Our Butlers

Published on 14 January 2021 in Destination

After their list of must-haves items you need for traveling in the new norm, our butler team has done it again and shared with us a new list of travel essentials. This time, they went extra, with the addition of things you will definitely need to stay stylish on your next tropical holiday!

Sanitising our hands and any points of contact have become our daily routine with the new norm. Some of us carry one sanitising spray (or gel) for all, as it is more convenient. However, our butlers advise having at least two different sanitising solutions - one for your hands containing a minimum of 60% alcohol and a disinfectant spray to sanitise surfaces like the table, chairs, trays on the plane, etc and in addition perhaps the food safe spray for cutleries. Of course, whenever you can, it is better to wash your hands with soap and water.

The tropics can be too humid and hot to handle sometimes, and you will need to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water - or order our young coconut with its natural electrolytes that may help you relax. Your skin will need to stay hydrated as well, pack a cooling spray or mist when you venture out on the island to ensure your skin stays healthy too.

SPF! The three letters our butlers love to remind our guests. Slather sunscreen with the right SPF to protect your skin from the sun before going out. There are plenty of options - including water-based sunscreen that feels light on your skin. Then you can lay in the sun by our pools safely while enjoying a selection of handcrafted cocktails. Don't forget to reapply once in a while!

Don't let the dry air from the flight chap your lips, keep your favourite lip balm close to keep them moist and protected. You don't want to get off the plane with dry lips, keep them plump and luscious - try all-natural lip balm you can find at shops near you!

Are you feeling tired after the flight? A splash of water on the face may be a good idea, but so does having body wipes at your beck and call. There are plant-based, biodegradable, compostable and chemical-free wipes available to keep you feeling and smelling fresh while being eco-friendly at the same time.

With many varieties out there, sunglasses are becoming more than just accessories - it is now playing a larger role, to protect your eyes from droplets. Plus, it makes you look cool in your travel photos. Pair it with your favourite bikini for that epic shot by our pools!

Mask usage is mandatory in public spaces nowadays. Be sure to pack your stock of masks - disposable or washable fabric masks. Now we even have different options - that have been approved by the WHO to protect yourself and others - that you can choose. Patterns or colours to match your outfit are available at your disposal. You can also invest in the cool full-face shield hitting the market lately!

Stand out in your pictures with bold colours and patterns that will be suitable for your photos at our beach or pool areas, or whites and earthy colours which are perfect when you are out and about around our gardens. For that fancy dinner at Soleil with your beau? Think of gem or metallic colours.

Be it an e-book, audiobook, or paperback; a good book will accompany you during that long flight, quiet time by the pool or even before bed. And reading keeps the imagination alive!

You've arrived at the resort and starting to unpack to discover wrinkled, scattered pieces of clothing in your luggage. That's a buzz-kill. Our team of butlers suggest investing in luggage cubes to make packing fun. You can keep your tops, dresses, shorts or undergarments in different cubes. Plus you will be able to separate your dirty clothes from the clean ones. BONUS: a travel wallet and passport holder can keep all your travel documents organised and easily accessed at any time.

Sun Hats - wide-brimmed straw hat or fedora can protect you from the heat and definitely add to your look!
Ear Plugs - need some peace and quiet? Pack some earplugs to use during flight or the first night at your destination. We deserve that beauty sleep after the long flight.
Collapsible Water Bottle - it won't take up too much space, and you can refill it anytime!
Power Bank - charge anytime, anywhere, remember to keep it fully charged though.
